# How developers learned to code

Technical documentation (59%) is the #1 learning method, edging out AI codegen tools (53%) and general online resources (52%). Traditional methods — books (27%), colleague training (21%), school (14%) — are mid-tier. Bootcamps (6%) are the lowest formal option. The takeaway: developers are self-directed learners who combine docs, AI, and community resources rather than following a curriculum.
